Today in E9, we had our first assignment. We were put into groups of four and together we created a design that represented us as a whole. My group decided to create a shield-like design with four items, waves, a soccer ball, a cross country shoe, and a longboard, each item representing a member in our group. For example, the waves represented me, because I am a swimmer. The soccer ball respresented my group mate Cole, because he plays soccer. The shoe represented cross country and the longboard represented longboarding/ skateboarding.
"This project was great, fun, and extraordinary. You had to have one mind in a group of four people. It was very unique of how we worked together."~ Brooke Cunningham
In one of the four corners, I drew my symbol, each member of my group doing the same in separate corners. Then in the center, we added a raven, because we all attended ONW and found it an important part of us all. We settled for this design after many changes and improvements. We at first just had the raven, drawn by my group mate Nick, until I thought up the idea of the shield. Then, one of my other group mates Molly, thought up the idea of a symbol representing us put into each corner. Together, we created a pretty awesome design that looked great on paper.
"It was good. I mean, everyone in my group was pretty quiet, which was understandable. But we managed to get everything done, so it was good."~ Thalia Prehoda.
We then talked about color choices, sticking mostly to the actual colors. For example, the water was blue, the soccer ball was black and white, etc... Next came the hard part, drawing it again, only with no earaser this time. We (Nick) drew the raven first. While Cole drew the shield, I worked on coloring the raven. We used black, blue, and yellow. Next we drew the symbols, taking a lot of time to make them look as best we could. The end result on the pavement wasn't quite as impressive as it was on paper, but we collaborated and had a great time, which was what this assignment was all about. All in all, I think this project was a success in collaborating and unlocking our creative thinking.
